One of the most popular heroes in film and literary history once again has reason to celebrate: the beginning of October marks the 60th anniversary of the world premiere of “James Bond – 007 chases Dr. no”. In Germany, the influential spy film starring Sean Connery as 007 only premiered in January 1963, but the anniversary party will be celebrated this fall. Not only that numerous German cinemas will be showing selected classics from the “James Bond” saga on the big screen again from October. Even more:
From October 13th to 22nd, one part of the iconic 007 film series will be released as a limited steel book each day. All ten steelbooks are sold exclusively via Amazon, and one of these collector’s items is more extensively equipped than the others – namely the limited edition for the first Bond movie.

The steel book for “007 hunts Dr. No” contains not only the film on Blu-ray, but also a photo booklet, mini posters for the film and other exclusive collector’s items. All ten Steelbooks have one thing in common:
The cover is based on the respective, unforgettable opening sequences of the films and thus falls outside the usual framework for home cinema covers. This is sure to be a feast for the eyes for some fans. Fans of Roger Moore’s interpretation of the top agent will get off particularly well with the first batch (the other films are likely to follow shortly). Because no fewer than five of the seven Moore films appear in this collection:

“The Man with the Golden Gun” with screen legend Christopher Lee as the villain, “The Spy Who Loved Me” with Barbara Bach as one of the most popular Bond girls in the film series, the wacky space Bond “Moonraker”, which was frivolously titled “Octopussy” and Moore’s farewell film “A View to a Kill” with a mischievous Christopher Walken.
For comparison: Of the six Bond films starring Sean Connery that are in the official canon of the cinema forge Eon Productions, only the debut was included in the collection. The one-time Bond actor George Lazenby and Daniel Craig, who only retired in 2021, are not part of the collection for the time being, and Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan are represented with two films each.
» Dalton on Amazon: “The Touch of Death“* / “Licence to kill“*
Dalton fans can thus acquire all 007 films of the “Hot Fuzz” scene thief in a steel book with opening credits design – the just as relaxed and light as pithy “The Living Daylights” as well as the hard-hitting revenge thriller “License to Kill”. Meanwhile, the two middle films from the Brosnan era will be released: “Tomorrow Never Dies” with Michelle Yeoh as the hard-hitting Bond girl and “The World Is Not Enough” with Denise Richards, whose performance has always divided fans’ minds.

Given how quickly various previous Bond saga steelbook editions have sold out, Bond enthusiasts with a penchant for the legendary intros might be well advised to pre-order. In the meantime, if the packaging isn’t too important to you, you can relax as all the Bond films have been released in numerous different editions.
