Even after 35 years, “Hellraiser – The Gates of Hell”, with which horror author Clive Barker filmed his own novella in 1987, is still one of the best horror films of all time for us. While the original got an extremely strong 4.5 stars in the DashFUN review, the nine (!) offshoots produced between 1988 and 2018 are much worse. Because the hell cult has degenerated into a cheap franchise over the years – with the latest “Hellraiser” by director David Bruckner (“The House At Night” “The Ritual”) everything should be better now. And a lot different.
Almost a month before US launch on streaming provider Hulu on October 7, 2022 finally offer the first pictures from the film (see picture gallery above) insights into the “Hellraiser” new edition. And they promise not only traditionally dark horror, but also one or the other innovation. Of course, fans should particularly notice the new cast of Pinhead: The cenobite leader is not played by original actor Doug Bradley, who repeatedly slipped into his most legendary role into the 2000s, but for the first time by Jamie Clayton.
The actress and trans activist known for series such as “Sense8”, “Designated Survivor” and “The L Word: Generation Q” will thus play the Hell Priest or Hell Priestess – a decision that many fans, especially of the novel, welcome.

Because Clive Barker wrote the cenobites coming from another dimension all genderless. Pinhead’s voice is even described as more female, making the cast a little closer to the original than Barker’s own adaptation. Incidentally, it once even ended up on the index in Germany, but meanwhile it still received the blessing of the FSK and, together with “Hellraiser 2” and “Hellraiser 3” – the two best sequels by far for many fans – is now completely unabridged with an 18 Release available in a set:

In addition, there have been a few more on Twitter in the past few weeks Information from the extremely reliable insider ViewerAnon to daylight. The famous box in the film is just one of many forms of the relic, in which numerous puzzles to be solved are hidden. In addition, there should be at least one completely new cenobite. At the same time, the 2022 film adaptation should deal with the same or similar topics as the original:
As in the 1987 film, the focus this time is on an addicted person – now played by Odessa A’zion (“Grand Army”) – who comes into possession of an ancient puzzle box. Without knowing it, she summons dark beings from another dimension with the help of the mysterious box – and thus pushes open the gate to hell…
By the way: After all, there is already a first teaser trailer for “Hellraiser”. Even if it unfortunately only consists of the logo for the film and does not yet contain any scenes from the film:
