Without surprise, Hawkeye decides to anchor himself totally in the style and light tone of the Marvel universe.

After the slaps that were Loki and What If …?, which made it possible to take spectators to new grounds, Hawkeye play it safe, and decide to take well-known trails. In its opening sequence alone, which takes up the cult scene from Falcon’s Eye in the first Avengers, we know that we are at home and that the show will not bring big surprises, nor big upheavals to the MCU, but is more like an unpretentious little sweet candy to accompany the Christmas holidays. Obviously, the MCU always works perfectly. These first two episodes are perfectly paced, and stage controlled action sequences and pleasing to the eye. Likewise, humor always hits the mark, and this gang of tracksuits is sure to make a mark.

A down to earth approach reminiscent of Falcon and the Winter Soldier

Jonathan Igla decides to opt for a Cartesian approach that suits Clint Barton perfectly. Urban character par excellence, the series moves away from cosmic adventures, and brings the hero back to more human issues. No more fights against Thanos, here Falcon-Eye is a tired family man, a worn-out superhero, deaf in one ear, regularly caught up in his past. Jonathan Igla is smart to play with this character’s legacy. He uses his past in the MCU to write his present. Traumatized by the death of Black Widow, damaged by his years as a superhero, he is forced to return to the field when the Ronin costume resurfaces. Ronin was the alter ego he used in Avengers: Endgame to quench his thirst for revenge. A dark period that he would like to leave behind.

As in Falcon and the Winter Soldier, series Hawkeye studies the character’s human inclination. While in Falcon and the Winter Soldier the show featured Falcon’s money problems and Bucky’s trauma, Hawkeye decide to portray the unwanted notoriety of Clint Barton, and his desire to return to a normal life, to a well-deserved anonymity. It is a way for these series of bring superheroes back to more human peregrinations.

Likewise, as in Malcolm Spellman’s series, Hawkeye discusses the notion of inheritance, but in the opposite direction. While Falcon must agree to become the new Captain America after Steve Rogers, here Falcon’s Eye must agree to hang up the bow to let the next generation take over.

Kate Bishop: The Next Hawk Eye

Hawkeye mostly serves to introduce Kate Bishop into the MCU. This young vigilante, played by Hailee Steinfeld is definitely going to become the new Hawkeye in the MCU.
