“Christmas is Right” with Lindsay Lohan has been available on Netflix since November 10 and has already attracted a good number of subscribers. Fans of “Lolita despite myself” may have noticed a nod to the cult film already worn by Lindsay Lohan.
Lindsay Lohan is back with Christmas falls on time
Lindsay Lohan had an encouraging career start in the early 2000s, stringing together teen movies freaky friday (2003), Lolita in spite of me (2004) and The Ladybug is back (2005). Films that marked an entire generation. Unfortunately, the sequel was more complicated for the actress with bad professional choices and problems with the law (from 2007), drugs and alcohol. Lindsay Lohan therefore experienced a real descent into hell. But she finally managed to make her big comeback in front of the screens thanks to Netflix. The platform was right in offering the actress to participate in a pure Christmas TV movie: Christmas falls on time.
In this one, she plays Sierra Belmont, an extremely wealthy woman, maintained by her father at the head of a hotel group. Sierra has therefore never had to work and lives in a world totally disconnected from reality. But her life will be turned upside down just after accepting the marriage proposal of her fiancé Tad (George Young) in the middle of a ski slope. It is at this moment that a storm takes place and that Sierra falls from the mountain.
Fortunately, Jake Russell (Chord Overstreet) finds her unconscious after her incident. So he takes her to the hospital. But when she wakes up, Sierra has completely lost her memory. Jake then agrees to welcome him in his “modest” chalet. In contact with friendly people, Sierra will change her attitude and reveal her sensitivity. Which will bring her closer to Jake and lead us to the expected romance.
This nod to Lolita in spite of me
Christmas falls on time ticks the genre boxes a predictable storyline and cartoonish characters. But it is precisely everything you expect from a Christmas TV movie. However, it is the presence of Lindsay Lohan that makes the film stand out. Because the actress still has a certain aura in those who were able to grow with her first works. Netflix is well aware of this since the production did not hesitate to a wink at Lolita in spite of me.
At the beginning of the film, we find Sierra driving with her fiancé. At this moment, the song Jingle Bell Rock goes on the radio and immediately Sierra starts singing it. Which isn’t really to Tad’s liking, who quickly stops her on the pretext that she’s not in the right key.
This is obviously an assumed reference to Lolita in spite of me. In this film, the actress embarked on a choreography by very controlled alongside Rachel McAdams, Lacey Chabert and Amanda Seyfriedbefore going on to sing a capella.
During an interview for ET OnlineLindsay Lohan confirmed that the snap was voluntary but that she still had a little pressure.
I was nervous because I hadn’t recorded anything for a long time and I felt the pressure of having to do it in a way that people who saw ‘Lolita in spite of me’ would enjoy here as well. What I mean is that with ‘Lolita despite’ me we had the dance and there were the other girls with me. Here it was just my voice. So it was tough. But the result is amazing. I’m very, very happy about it.
