Apple continues work on series starring Natalie Portman

Lupita Nyong’o has left the cast of “Lady in the Lake” from Apple and Endeavor Content. The series was first announced in March 2021. “Lady in the Lake” is currently in production and the search continues for a new actress to take on the role. Natalie Portman remains the executive producer and lead actress of the series.
This marks the second time Nyong’o has left a major TV role in the past two years. In 2020, the actress had to exit the adaptation of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s novel “Americanah” due to scheduling issues caused by the pandemic. “Lady in the Lake” is based on the novel of the same name by Laura Lippman. The miniseries is set in the 1960s in Baltimore, where an unsolved murder drives housewife Maddie Schwartz (Portman) to reinvent her life as an investigative journalist, putting her on a collision course with Cleo Sherwood.
In addition to Portman, Y’lan Noel, Mikey Madison and Brett Gelman are also in the cast. Alma Har’el created the series and will also be the director and executive producer through her new production company, Zusa. Har’el’s producing partner, Christopher Legget, is also executive producer. Portman’s producing partner, Sophie Mas, is also executive producer. Endeavor Content serves as the studio for “Lady in the Lake.”
Crazyrose’s directors, Nathan Ross and the late Jean-Marc Vallée, are producing for Bad Wolf America with Amy J. Kaufman and Julie Gardner. Created and directed by Alma Har’el, “Lady in the Lake” was written by Har’el with Nambi Kelly, Briana Belser, Sheila Wilson and Boaz Yakin, who also serves as executive producer.
