The actor Henry Cavill had applied to play one of the secondary characters of the Harry Potter saga, capital in The Goblet of Fire, and finally played on the screen by Robert Pattinson.
For all Harry Potter moviegoers, Robert Pattinson plays Cedric Diggory, Hogwarts student selected for the Triwizard Tournament in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. But Diggory has been played by another actor previously in the saga, and could not even have been played by Pattinson!
Cedric Diggory is a student of Hufflepuff, seeker of the Quidditch team. In the novels, it appears from the third volume, The Prisoner of Azkaban, then in its direct suite The goblet of fire. Within the latter, he is selected to represent Hogwarts at the Triwizard Tournament and goes out with Cho Chang.
At the movies, the Quidditch match between Gryffindor and Hufflepuff is well shown in Azkaban, but the seeker attempting to take the Snitch before Harry, supposedly Diggory, is played uncredited by actor and stuntman Joe Livermore. (according to call sheet of the filming). Despite his terrible fall during the match and his presence in the infirmary seen from afar, the character is never named.
When filming The Goblet of Fire, however, you have to choose someone to play Diggory, which becomes central to the plot. Livermore is ignored and a casting is organized, which is attended by most of the British actors of age to play the role and among them a certain … Henry Cavill, the Man of Steel himself.
The latter doesn’t get the role, making it the second time he’s been cast aside in favor of Robert Pattinson, as Cavill was author Stephanie Meyer’s first choice to play Edward in the film adaptation of the Twilight saga. The studio will prefer Pattinson to him.
The latter won the audition for The Goblet of Fire because some time before, he discovered during a preview that he had been entirely cut from the film Vanity Fair, the vanity fair. One of the casting directors, who feels bad for him, tells him about the casting organized for the fourth installment of Harry Potter and the sequel has made history.
Diggory remains a character extremely appreciated by fans, but who could therefore have had a completely different face in cinema! The help and support he gives Harry during the Triwizard Tournament has remained in the hearts of viewers since their discovery of the books and / or movies.
