Dobby, the kind-hearted house-elf, is one of the fan-favorite protagonists of the universe of Harry Potter. And, quite rightly, they are currently mobilizing to preserve a very special place.
Dobby is an iconic character
The little house elf makes his first appearance in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. At the end of the second opus of the adventures of the young wizard, the latter releases Dobby. Until then in the service of the cruel Malfoy family, the elf frees himself from his masters after having discovered a sock between the pages of Tom Riddle’s diary. As a reminder, it is necessary to offer to clothe – whatever it is – to these creatures so that they can free themselves from their existence of bondage.
In the sequel to the franchise, Dobby proves to be a valuable helper to Harry and his friends. During the last volume of the saga, he saves the main trio by appearing in the Malfoy mansion – them again. The family in the pay of Lord Voldemort retains Hermione, Ron, and Harry – as well as other characters. But fortunately, the house-elf comes to their rescue.
A tiny hero
Narrowly escaping Bellatrix Lestrange and her minions, Harry and Dobby Apparate to a beach near the Seashell Cottage. There the Chosen One notices with horror the dagger stuck in the chest of his companion. There is nothing more to do for the elf, who succumbs not without moving last words. Dobby’s death undeniably shocked readers and viewers. Many regard this sequence as one of the saddest of the saga. Shortly after the death of the little character, Harry and his friends bury him on the beach. As an epitaph, “Here lies Dobby, free elf”. A meaningful sentence that celebrates the freedom of the one who will have been one of the most faithful companions of Harry Potter.
The House-Elf’s death occurs in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, part one. Obviously, the sad sequence on the beach gave ideas to the fans! They have taken the habit of placing a pebble in the exact spot where the grave should be.
Dobby’s grave under threat
Over time, the construction becomes a stack of very substantial size. Battery which is not to everyone’s taste, since the residents would like to see it disappear. Conversely, fans of the saga hope to be able to save this location dear to their hearts. A petition has already been launched on this subject.
Victoria Maclean, passionate about the world of Harry Potter reacts to the possible disappearance of this “war memorial” at the microphone of the BBC. She hopes that it will not be destroyed or moved. The young lady warns fans against the socks they place on the construction: as time goes by, these become waste. Aware of this problem, she believes in a potential “compromise”.
I didn’t think a fictional character was able to bring so much love to people.
Despite the fervor of his defenders, it is currently unknown what will become of Dobby’s burial. The British National Trust, a body that asks citizens about “society” issues, will decide without delay On the question. Note that among the inhabitants of the Welsh county of Pembroke, opinions differ! Some believe that this tribute has absolutely nothing to do with “their” beach, while others see no problem with it. In a BBC report, a shopkeeper believes Dobby’s fictional grave turns out to be a significant tourist asset.
She put Pembrokeshire on a map.
