Director of the first two Harry Potter films, Chris Columbus would love to return to the universe of the wizard with glasses by staging the adaptation of the successful play The Cursed Child with the actors of the franchise.
Twenty years. That’s how much time has passed since the theatrical release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, which launched one of the most successful and lucrative franchises of all time. On the occasion of this anniversary, Variety spoke with Chris Columbus, the man to whom we owe the first two opus of the saga.
And the latter would not be against diving back into the magical universe created by JK Rowling! The filmmaker has indeed made it known that he “would love to perform The Cursed Child”, The play written by Jack Thorne based on a story imagined by Rowling herself and first performed in 2016.
The action of The Cursed Child takes place 19 years after the events recounted in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and follows the adventures of Harry and Ginny Potter’s son, Albus Severus, the year he entered Hogwarts where he join the Slytherin house.
We take the same and start again ?
“It’s a great play and the kids are the right age to play these roles. It’s one of my little fantasies”Added Chris Columbus referring to the actors he had directed when they were children: Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint and the others.
As enticing as the director’s idea is, he himself admits that it is only a fantasy at the moment. But it is true that if the producers of the saga responded favorably to his call of the foot, there would be something to rejoice the very many fans of Harry Potter!
In the meantime, it’s to Fantastic Beasts 3: Secrets of Dumbledore, slated for release on April 13, 2022, that Potterheads will need to turn to for their dose of magic.
