Harrison Ford has signed on to star in the Apple comedy series “Shrinking” with Jason Segel. The series was first announced in October 2021. Segel will co-write the series with Bill Lawrence, co-creator of “Ted Lasso,” and Brett Goldstein, star, writer, and co-producer of “Ted Lasso.” “Shrinking” will follow Jimmy (Segel), a grieving therapist who begins to break the rules and tell his clients exactly what he thinks.
By disregarding his education and ethics, Jimmy makes big, turbulent changes in people’s lives, including his own. Ford, is described as a grounded, sharp-sighted Dr. who will play Phil Rhodes. Phil is a pioneer in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, developing a successful practice over the years he shares with his two young patrons, Jimmy and Gaby. Extremely independent, Phil has recently been diagnosed with Parkinson’s, which forces him to step out of his comfort zone as he grapples with intrusive friends, estranged family, and legacy.
The role will be Ford’s first television lead role. The iconic actor is best known for starring in movie franchises like “Star Wars,” “Blade Runner,” and “Indiana Jones.” The last of these is currently in preparation for his fifth film, with Ford returning as a world-traveling archaeologist. She is also known to act in movies such as “The Fugitive”, “Witness” (which earned an Oscar nomination), “Patriot Games”, “Sabrina” and “Working Girl”. Ford also starred in the movie “The Mosquito Coast,” which was recently adapted into an Apple drama series starring Justin Theroux.
In addition to writing, Segel, Lawrence and Goldstein serve as executive producers on “Shrinking.” Lawrence is executive producing through Doozer Productions, while Doozer’s Jeff Ingold and Liza Katzer are also executives producing alongside Neil Goldman. Warner Bros., with which Doozer is under a general agreement. Television will serve as the studio.
