In Murder, due in November on Netflix, Halle Berry plays an MMA champion on her way to redemption, for her directorial debut.
Halle Berry is ready to knock out! Netflix has unveiled the official trailer for Murder, the first feature film directed by Halle Berry – Oscar winner for Best Actress for In the Shadow of Hate – which will be released on November 24.
In the film written by Michelle Rosenfarb – who signs her first screenplay for the cinema – Halle Berry plays Jackie Justice, a disgraced MMA champion. Years later, seething with rage and regret, she takes part in a violent underground fight that takes place in an underground, pushed by her manager and boyfriend Desi (Adan Canto).
She thus attracts the attention of a promoter (Shamier Anderson) who promises to help her find her place in the octagon. But the road to redemption takes a personal and unexpected turn when Manny (Danny Boyd Jr.) – the son she abandoned when he was a baby – shows up at her doorstep after her father’s death.
Meurtrie has an auspicious release date for awards season, which indicates that Netflix is likely banking on some recognition of Berry’s work. After being the first black woman to win the Oscar for Best Actress, will she be able to make history again in the direction category? Netflix seems to think she has a chance.
