Despite competition from Brad Pitt in “Bullet Train”It’s just a formality anyway. The question was rather: Can the eighth part also trump the numbers of the predecessors “Dampfnudelblues”, “Winterkartoffelknödel”, “Schweinskopf al dente”, “Grießnockerlaffäre”, “Sauerkrautkoma”, “Leberkäsjunkie” and “Kaiserschmarrndrama”? Or isn’t there a dip at some point and the public interest, which has been steadily increasing up to now, slowly disappears again?
One mustn’t forget that the first parts were only box office hits in Bavaria, while the Eberhofer cases only blossomed into a nationwide phenomenon with the first TV broadcasts. But now it’s clear: With “Guglhupfgeschwader” the end of the road has not yet been reached, quite the opposite! After “Kaiserschmarrndrama” had the most successful start day of the entire series last year despite the strict Conorna restrictions at the time, “Guglhupfgeschwader” is now even going one better.
“Guglhupfgeschwader” attracted around 57,000 paying viewers* to German cinemas on the first day alone – and that’s another proud 21 percent more than a year ago with the previous record holder “Kaiserschmarrndrama”. (For comparison: The Brad Pitt Action Fest “Bullet Train” did not even have half as many visitors.) The fact that “Guglhupfgeschwader” will once again attract an audience of millions to the cinemas is therefore a final decision – the only question is how high it really goes.
In any case, “Guglhupfgeschwader” has a real chance of becoming the most successful part of the series, not just on the first day but overall — and to do that, he would need to beat the following numbers:
- “Dampfnudelblues” (2013) = 520,000 visitors
- “Winter potato dumplings” (2014) = approx. 570,000 visitors
- “Pig’s head al dente” (2016) = approx. 560,000 visitors
- “Semolina dumplings” (2017) = approx. 850,000 visitors
- “Sauerkrautkoma” (2018) = approx. 1.02 million visitors
- “Leberkäsjunkie” (2019) = approx. 1.26 million visitors
- “Kaiserschmarrn drama” (2021) = 1.15 million visitors (despite Corona restrictions)
Incidentally, the start date for part 9 has already been set: “Rehragout-Rendezvous” will start in German cinemas on August 3, 2023. (If you want to know how to proceed, The novel is now available on Amazon* to buy.) Whether there will be record news to report again cannot of course be said for sure at the moment. However, there is little that speaks against the steep rise of the series continuing more than ten years later – after all, “Guglhupfgeschwader” has become really good again:
