New photographs from “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” have just been released on the net. While filming has just wrapped, these shots suggest James Gunn’s feature film will explore uncharted territory in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Explanations:
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3: end clap
A few days ago, the filmmaker James Gunn has wrapped the filming of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Expected for May 3, 2023, this third opus of the trilogy initiated in 2014 should logically complete the arch of the Guardians. We already know, for example, that Dave Bautista, the interpreter of Drax, ends its partnership with Marvel Studios after this final lap. Will the film, therefore, sign Drax’s death warrant? The future will tell. As for the other characters, no one knows what James Gunn will have in store for us.
In any case, new photographs have just come out on the net. Snapshots that highlight strange, humanoid creatures, who look like human beings, but have mysterious animal faces. It’s very simple, it feels like straight out of an episode of Men in Black. Well, these intriguing shots suggest that James Gunn will introduce Counter-Earth into the MCU.
What is Counter-Earth?
Initially, the Counter-Earth, also called Anti-Earth, is a Greek concept issued by the philosopher Philolaus around 385 BC This is a hypothesis that assumes that our entire solar system orbits around a “central fire” invisible from Earth. Later, this hypothetical planet, which would be located behind the sun, was called Counter-Earth and has become a recurring theme in claiming the existence of UFOs.
Like always, the Marvel universe has taken over this ancient theory to incorporate it into its immense universe. In the Marvel Universe, Counter-Earth is in outer space and is a kind of double of our blue planet. It was in 1972 that there is the first mention of Counter-Earth. It is a place initially created by the mad scientist High Evolutionary. He imagines this planet as a purer version of the original Earth. But it is destroyed by Thanos.
High Evolutionary decides to try the experiment again and creates a second Counter-Earth. But not having sufficient means to carry out his project, High Evolutionary turns to a demonic force for help: Man-Beast. The latter decides to inseminate hybrid creatures, half-men, half-beasts. A theme that is very reminiscent of the film The Island of Doctor Moreau.
In all, there have been four versions of Counter-Earth over the ages in the Marvel Universe. The last two were created by Franklin Richards, the son of Reed Richards and Sue Storm.
Counter-Earth in the MCU?
The latest photos from the set of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 suggest that our heroes will visit Counter-Earth. The first set of images shows animal-like humanoid creatures walking around in 1980s clothing. Shots that fuel some theories that suggest the film will stage the New Men (those funny creatures in the photos), created by L’Homme-Bête. The second image features a police car with alien writing.
If Counter-Earth is introduced into Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, this may have some consequences on the plot of the film. Maybe James Gunn will introduce High Evolutionary or Franklin Richards. for the occasion. The second option would be much more exciting, especially now that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness referenced the character. Adam Warlock also has a connection to Counter-Earth, and since the golden hero is confirmed in James Gunn’s film, this further reinforces these theories around this new place in the MCU. Finally, James Gunn could use this alternate Earth to explain the origins of Rocket Racoon. We could also meet there again a certain Howard the duck… In any case, all this once again promises a comical and offbeat approach specific to James Gunn!
