Back at Marvel to direct “Guardians of the Galaxy 3”, James Gunn continues to announce a particularly dark film. This time he confirms that it will be the end of the superhero team made up of Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket and Groot.
With Guardians of the Galaxy in 2014, james gunn brought a not unpleasant breath of fresh air to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The director introduced a whole new team with superheroes little known to the general public. A risky bet, but one that paid off. Thus, three years later we found Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket and Groot for a new adventure. The team also stood out alongside the Avengers to defeat Thanos. These characters therefore have a real importance within the MCU and have above all been able to touch the hearts of the fans. Inevitably, their next adventure, Guardians of the Galaxy 3, is eagerly awaited. Especially since it will be, a priori, the last time we will see them together.
Soon the end of the Guardians
This was recently announced by James Gunn to Deadline. The filmmaker does not go overboard by declaring about his next film:
This is the end for us, the last time people will see this Guardian team.
He also explains that Guardians of the Galaxy 3 will be extremely dark and “different from what people might expect“. Does this mean that some heroes will pass the weapon to the left? Impossible to say for sure at the moment, even if he had already teased the death of a character (it could be a secondary character) We can also imagine that the filmmaker simply intends to dissolve the current team and open it up to new members who would take over.
In any case, we are curious to see how James Gunn, who has so far accustomed us to a fairly light style, will manage everything this dark aspect that he announces for Guardians of the Galaxy 3. He promises to do his best to wrap up the Guardians arc either way, though he jokingly admits that the third installment of a trilogy is often “bad“. Hopefully that won’t be the case this time around.
Guardians of the Galaxy 3 is scheduled to hit theaters on May 3, 2023.
