The long-running doctor series “Grey’s Anatomy” is actually already in its 19th round. No wonder that leading actress Ellen Pompeo needs a break and will be seen less often in the new season. Pompeo already has a new series job on the line. In “Grey’s Anatomy”, your character Meredith Gray largely withdraws from everyday hospital life at Gray Sloan Memorial and will only appear in eight episodes in Season 19. As a narrator, however, she remains for the entire season.
Somewhat to mitigate the absence of Meredith Grey, however, is another popular doctor who will return in Season 19: As Variety reported, Grey’s Anatomy Season 19 stars Kate Walsh as Dr. Addison Montgomery returns in a recurring role.

The fan favourite, who even got his own spin-off with “Private Practice” after leaving the main series, has appeared in guest roles in “Grey’s Anatomy” in recent years. Now, it sounds like we might actually be seeing more of Addison again in season 19 — even starting in episode 3. Whether the surgeon and neonatologist is making a permanent return to Gray Sloan Memorial Hospital, or just for a multi-episode (or maybe even the majority of the season) lasting storyline, is not yet known.
The return of a familiar face should definitely please fans of the first hour. Because from Season 1, in addition to Ellen Pompeo, only Chandra Wilson as Dr. Miranda Bailey and James Pickens Jr. as Dr. Richard Webber is there. But there are many new residents who will work, love and suffer in Season 19 in Gray Sloan. You can get a first glimpse of the new characters in the new season teaser trailer, linked at the top of this article.
Newcomers are Alexis Floyd as Simone Griffin, Adelaide Kane as Jules Millin, Niko Terho as Lucas Adams, Harry Shum Jr. as Benson “Blue” Kwan and Midori Francis as Mika Yasuda. Grey’s Anatomy season 19 premieres in the US on October 6, 2022. In Germany, the new episodes will soon be shown again on Disney+ and probably also on ProSieben.
