After “Need for Speed” released in 2014, it’s the turn of “Gran Turismo”, another famous license of car racing games, to be adapted to the cinema. Sony Pictures has just unveiled the first images of “Gran Turismo”.
What’s this Gran Turismo ?
Famous car racing simulation video game, Gran Turismo was created in 1997 by the Japanese studio Polyphony Digital for the cult PlayStation 1 console. In all, 7 main opuses are released between 1997 and 2022to which must also be added 6 secondary games. Since its launch, more than 90 million copies were sold across the world, making it the PlayStation franchise most profitable in history.



Despite this planetary triumph, Sony took time before embarking on a film adaptation. But this time, fans of the game will be served, since the film Gran Turismo is expected on next august 9 in dark rooms. Worn by David Harbour, Archie Madekwe, Orlando Bloom or even Djimon Hounsou, the feature film is directed by Neill Blomkamp (District 9, Chappie). The South African director thus leaves for the first time in his career the world of science fiction.
First pictures
His film will tell the true story of Jann Mardenborough. This 31-year-old Briton experienced a success story surprising. Passionate about car racing from an early age, Jann Mardenborough started karting as early as his seven years. Later, when he finished his architectural studies, he took part in the GT Academy, a challenge organized by Nissan on the game Gran Turismo 5. Finishing among the winners, Jann Mardenborough uses his skills acquired on Gran Turismo thereby become a real professional racing driver.
In 2012, he took part in his first season with the Nissan team. He even won a victory in the British GT championship. Subsequently, he took part in major events such as the GP3 Series, The 24 hours of Le Mans or the Japanese Super GT series.



At Sony’s annual CES conference, the studio unveiled the first pictures of Gran Turismo. But the spectators can above all discover the behind the scenes of some sequences and the presentation of the project by different members of the cast. David Harbor who plays Jack Salter, Orlando Bloom who plays Danny Moore and the young Archie Madekwe who plays film star Jann Mardenborough, provide details on the content of the film. The actors praise the merits of Blomkamp’s work, promising action, drama and romance. See you on August 9 to see the result.
