It is a duel at the top that awaits spectators in “Goliath”, the new film by Frédéric Tellier, who finds Pierre Niney after “Save or perish”. In the feature film, he faces Gilles Lellouche, who plays an environmental law lawyer. A role he was never meant to play.
Goliath: Gilles Lellouche facing Pierre Niney
For his third film as a director after The SK1 Affair and Save or perish, Frédéric Tellier tackled the agrochemical industry and its lobbies. Indeed, Goliath is about a confrontation between a powerful group (Phytosanis) accused of covering up the dangers of a pesticide used by farmers and an environmental lawyer.
The latter is played by Gilles Lellouche, while the lobbyist working for Phytosanis is played by Pierre Niney. The actress Emmanuelle Bercot is also present in the casting in the role of an activist, ready to do anything to ban pesticides. The film is inspired by the glyphosate affair.
Gilles Lellouche was to play the lobbyist
While he is very convincing in the role of the lawyer in the war against an agrochemical giant, Gilles Lellouche was not supposed to play this character. Indeed, Frédéric Tellier had first written the latter as a female character.
It was finally Gilles Lellouche who gave him the idea of making a man out of him and offered to play him. Initially, it was the role of the lobbyist which was for the actor. But he had no desire to play it. He explained why in the press kit from the movie:
I had the impression of having already had the opportunity to play this kind of character, these somewhat cynical types, these cold-blooded animals only obsessed with the lure of profit, especially in MA PART DU GÂTEAU by Cédric Klapisch. In the version of the scenario that I had read, the lawyer character was a woman and I then suggested to Frédéric to make a man of her. He asked me for two or three days of reflection. Then he accepted and rewrote everything in this direction. I was overjoyed at the idea of having the chance to deal with this subject with this director while fulfilling one of my lifelong dreams: playing a lawyer on screen.
Goliath is currently in theaters.
