After his nomination last year for his role in “Designated Guilty”, Tahar Rahim is nominated again at the 2022 Golden Globes for his performance in the series “The Serpent”. For his part, Omar Sy is nominated for the very first time at this ceremony, in recognition of his work in the hit Netflix series “Lupine”.
France well represented at the 79th Golden Globes ceremony
This is a first for one, and a second for the other. And in any case, it is a new source of pride for the French cinema and series world, which sees its talents once again named to prestigious awards in a foreign ceremony. Two French actors have indeed convinced this year 2021, with on the one hand Omar Sy in the great success Lupine, and on the other hand Tahar Rahim for his intriguing and disturbing incarnation of serial killer Charles Sobhraj in the BBC series The snake, broadcast here on Netflix. And the icing on the cake, our two male stars are nominated in two different categories and therefore do not compete with each other!
In addition, Marion Cotillard for Annette and Alexandre Desplat for The French Dispatch.
Tahar Rahim as a killer and Oma Sy as a burglar gentleman
Netflix can rub their hands: his series and their performers are successful. On the one hand, Lupine is an original creation, and on the other The snake is a BBC production that Netflix had the very good idea to broadcast. This has enabled the two main performers of these two series – a “standard” and a “mini-series” – to shine around the world.
Omar Sy can be thanked. He has indeed revived the worldwide popularity of Arsène Lupine, a fictional literary character whose character Assane Diop is inspired to accomplish his exploits and especially to avenge the death of his father. Impressive, having fun dressing up and worrying about the safety of his son, Omar Sy shines in this series that looks like it was created for him. It is named in the category Best Actor in a Drama Series. He faces Brian Cox and Jeremy Strong, both nominated for Succession, Lee Jung-Jae for Squid Game, and Billy Porter for Pose.
Tahar Rahim is named in the category Best Actor in a Dramatic Mini-Series for his role in The snake, story of Charles Sobhraj’s murderous journey. He faces Paul Bettany in WandaVision, Oscar Isaac in Scenes From a Marriage, Michael Keaton in Dopesick, Ewan McGregor in Halston.
The 79th Golden Globe Awards will take place on the night of January 9 to 10, 2022.
