We had no idea what would happen to the MonsterVerse after the release of “Godzilla vs Kong” and this clash between the two star monsters. The rest will take place in our living rooms because a series is in preparation for the Apple TV+ platform.
The MonsterVerse: A Universe Dominated by Godzilla and Kong
In 2014, the giant lizard Godzilla returned to cinemas with a new feature film directed by Gareth Edwards. More than a comeback, 16 years after Roland Emmerich’s painful attempt, it was at the start of a extended universe which we attended.
The Marvel formula inspired the industry and other studios wanted to exploit it in turn. This is how the MonsterVerse was born, with the participation of King Kong and other Godzilla-related critters. The latest track from this universe is godzilla vs kong and we didn’t know what the next step could be. It must be said that the disagreement between Legendary and Warner about the release of the film on HBO Max did not help to project in a positive way.
An Apple TV+ series in the works
Despite everything, the MonsterVerse is still alive since we learn thata live series is now in preparation on the side of Apple TV +.
The scenario will unfold after the events of the first Godzilla, once humans became aware that the Titans were real. We will then dwell on the journey of a family who will discover buried secrets and connections to the Monarch organization.
As a reminder, this is precisely linked to research on monsters. We really don’t know any more about how this plot will fit into everything that has been done on the big screen. Moreover, it is difficult not to have serious doubts about the interest of such a show, knowing that movies have always screwed up when it came to developing human characters.
Even if the direction of Gareth Edwards had positioned itself quite cleverly at the height of a man in Godzilla, we had a hard time hanging on to the figures presented and the real stars remained the monsters.
Doubts can also be cast on the budgetary ambitions of this series. It will be necessary to align a nice sum in order to offer great action scenes worthy of those seen in the cinema. Chris Black and Matt Fraction are attached to the project as creators and the first of the two will serve as showrunner. Apple has a project that will speak to the public and that can allow it to increase its reputation within the ecosystem of platforms. Let us also remember thatan animated series Skull Island will be released on Netflix. What lead us to think that the MonsterVerse will settle more in the future on the small rather than on the big screen.
