37 years after the first opus signed Ivan Reitman, it is his son Jason who takes up the torch of the “Ghostbusters” saga. A film necessarily very personal for him, who had also played in the 1984 feature film.
It’s no secret: Jason Reitman is none other than the son of Ivan Reitman, director of the first two Ghostbusters. Seeing him take up the torch of the saga therefore goes beyond the simple concept of a sequel mixed with nostalgia, and echoes the theme of transmission found in the well-named L’Héritage.
Because as the director of Juno tells us: “Ghostbusters is an integral part of my life”. His father had indeed taken him to Paris for the promotion of the first opus before offering him a small role in the second, the time of a scene where the heroes host a birthday party.
It was perhaps, for Ivan Reitman, a way of redeeming himself after having cut his son in the editing in the previous episode. Jason had indeed played in it, along with his mother and sister, but we do not find it in the final result. As he explains to us, by evoking his personal relationship to the sag, you can however find these images in his own film.
