“Ghostbusters: The Legacy” directed by Jason Reitman got off to a very good start at the box office, and is on course to become one of the biggest hits of 2021. Bodes well for the future of the saga . Could a sequel to the film see the light of day? Jason Reitman answered us.
Ghostbusters the Legacy is in theaters!
Five years after the 100% female remake of Paul Feig, which had not really thrilled the public, the saga Ghostbusters is back in theaters under the aegis of Jason Reitman. With Ghostbusters: The Legacy, the latter pays tribute to the films of his father, Ivan Reitman. To mix the old and the new generation, Jason Reitman looked at the descendants of Egon Spengler, the ghost hunter played by the late Harold Ramis.
Indeed, the first roles of the film are held by teenagers, and more particularly by the granddaughter of Egon Spengler, Phoebe, camped by the formidable Mckenna Grace. She must in turn go on a ghost hunt, on a moving initiatory journey in the footsteps of her grandfather.
Released in American theaters on November 19, Ghostbusters: The Legacy made a very good start and has already racked up $ 118 million at the global box office. A nice surprise in a context still affected by the pandemic, which could lead to other films.
Jason Reitman gives his opinion
Like his father before him, Jason Reitman would love to continue the adventure Ghostbusters, as he told us in an interview:
I hope this is the start of a series of many films. We wanted to create a Ghostbusters movie that could serve as a foundation for other films to come. We must first determine if there is a future. We have to see if the audience responds favorably to this film and if they want more of it. If so, I hope Sony will support the project. We wanted to expand the mythology of Ghostbusters. We only see this movie as the next chapter in Ghostbusters. There are so many stories to tell.
And to add:
I really like these characters. I really appreciate them, especially Phoebe. Gil Kenan and I wanted to create a young hero. A young woman who is a brilliant scientist misunderstood like her grandfather Egon. We wanted to create a young woman that our daughters can admire. So I would love to be able to continue telling her story.
With a good score, we can imagine that Sony Pictures will give a favorable follow-up to the wishes of Jason Reitman.
