Germinal, the mini-series event, will be broadcast from October on France 2.
From Wednesday October 27, France 2 will broadcast its modern and ambitious adaptation of Germinal by Émile Zola.
If this event mini-series chooses a very current tone, it nonetheless remains faithful to this classic of French literature. As in the novel, the spectator will follow Etienne Lantier, a young man hired in the mines of Montsou. There, he meets the Maheu family before falling in love with their daughter Catherine, unfortunately courted by Chaval, a brutal worker.
When the Compagnie des Mines decides to lower wages, Étienne, already revolted by this misery, rebels. Dreaming of justice, he then urges his comrades to strike. As the weeks go by, the starving strikers struggle but finally resign themselves to returning to work after a violent crackdown.
To put this monumental work into images, France Television has relied on David Hourrègue (Skam France) for the production and Julien Lilti (Hippocrate) for the writing. Casting side, this five-star production went all out and we find in particular Louis Peres, Alix Poisson, Thierry Godard, Guillaume de Tonquédec, Sami Bouajila, Natacha Lindinger, Rose-Marie Perreault, Jonas Bloquet, Steve Tientcheu, Aliocha Schneider, Marilou Aussiloux, Max Baissette de Malglaive, Eric Paul or even Vincent Deniard.
See you from October 27 at 9:05 p.m. on France 2.
And for the more impatient, the series is already available on the Salto platform!
