As the year 2021 slowly but surely draws its bow, players are sharpening their blades for the first big cartridges of 2022. Starting with Elden Ring, CQFD.
Those who have been lucky enough to be able to try their hand at the closed beta of the next FromSoftware have finally been able to glimpse the specifics of Elden Ring, starting with the pen of the author George RR Martin, made famous around the world for his saga The iron Throne.
The Elden Ring community
In an interview, the fantasy author had already had the opportunity to talk about his role, explaining that his work on Elden Ring was completed “already several years ago”. But this time through his pen (and on his blog) that he returns to this singular video game experience, not without talking about his own experience with the thing:
A few years ago, Hidetaka Miyazaki and her amazing team of developers, the creators of the Dark Souls video game series, contacted me from Japan asking me to help them create the backstory and story for the game. ‘a new game they were working on. Video games aren’t really my thing – oh, I’ve played a few long ago, mostly strategy games like Railroad Tycoon, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, and Master of Orien – but this deal was too exciting to refuse. Miyazaki and his team at FromSoftware were doing groundbreaking stuff with superb artistic direction, and what they wanted from me was just a little world-building: a deep, dark, resonant world to serve as the basis for the game that I wanted. ‘they planned to create. And it turns out that I love to create worlds and write an imaginary story.
So I did my part and sent it to my new friends in Japan, and they took over. And the years passed. Video games are as big as movies these days (bigger, actually) … and take just as long to create.
But the day of Elden Ring is finally near.
And I have to say it looks amazing.
My current state: captivated <3
