Game Awards: among these video games, only one will be that of the year, the GOTY

The Games Awards, which can now be considered the Oscars of video games, have unveiled the nominees for the game of the year.

The Game Awards, the great American celebration of the world video game, will take place on December 8, 2022, at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. DashFUN is once again part of the jury that chose the games that will compete for an award. The most prestigious is obviously the one that rewards the one considered the video game of the year, the GOTY, acronym for Game Of The Year.

In 2014, it’s the RPG BioWare, Dragon Age: Inquisition, who was the winner. In 2015, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Poles from CD PROJEKT RED. In 2016, Overwatch scooped the game of the year award, while in 2017 it was a video game demo by Nintendo with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. 2018, the reinvention of a legendary series, God of War. 2019, the celebration of the Japanese studio FromSoftware with Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Finally, in 2020, it is The Last of Us Part II which was sacred, and in 2021, the revelation It Takes Two.

Who will be the Game Awards GOTY 2022?

The Game of the Year according to The Game Awards can be found in this list:

A Plague Tale: Requiem (Asobo Studio/Focus Entertainment)

Elden Ring (FromSoftware/Bandai Namco)

God of War Ragnarok (Sony Santa Monica/SIE)

Horizon Forbidden West (Guerrilla Games/SIE)

Stray (BlueTwelve Studio/Annapurna Interactive)

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 (MonolithSoft/Nintendo)

Elden Ring and God of War Ragnarok Favorites

We can see that the selection is varied, with games that are very different from each other. However, it seems obvious that two titles already stand out (and this is the case with the votes of editors like DashFUN who participate in the list of these nominees): Elden Ring and God of War Ragnarok. The second has the advantage of being fresh in memory, but the first, when it was released and the weeks that followed, had literally eclipsed any other video game…

What do you think of this list of GOTY contenders? Is your favorite game of the year in it? A prediction perhaps? Outcome in a few weeks, and it will of course be to follow on!
