Game Awards 2022: how to follow the conference? What games to expect?

The Game Awards 2022 are almost here. Evening where the wildest dreams can become possible, the event will once again be rich in big announcements. Manufacturers, developers and publishers not only come to celebrate the best games of the year, they especially want to make an impression on their next releases with World Premieres in spades. PS5, Xbox Series, PC and Nintendo Switch, indie like AAA, there should be something for everyone. Date, time, how to watch the conference, what to expect? We do a little recap.

What time is The Game Awards 2022? How to watch them?

It’s almost the big night. After weeks of teasing, the Game Awards 2022 will reward the best games of the year in ten categories. What players are waiting for, however, is to know if the game they’ve been waiting for the most or the announcement they’ve been dreaming about for years will hide behind a famous World Premiere. A ceremony that we are promised exceptional which will be held at our place in the night of December 8 to 9 at 1:30 a.m.French time.

If Geoff Keighley has promised that you will be able to go to bed earlier, it will at least be necessary to count on an event of 2h30 at the very least, but of less than three hours, this includes a pre-show which will contain some announcements and prize giving. As usual, The Game Awards 2022 will be broadcast on the official channels of the ceremony on Twitch and Youtube. However, you can count on us to be on the job and to give you all the big announcements tonight.

What to expect for this edition?

Elden Ring DLCs

If the event will be shortened at the request of the spectators, this does not mean that there will be fewer announcements or that they will be less impactful. Always a good talker, Geoff Keighley affirms that the players must be impatient and that the event will be exceptional.

This year, I feel good about it. We have thousands of fans with us, a really strong line-up of announcements and content, a good ceremony overall. So I’m particularly excited. If nothing leaks and we manage to keep a few surprises, it will be a really fun night. I haven’t been this calm for a long time.

On the program less CGI trailers and more gameplay for a total of 30 to 40 announcements. The pre-show alone will include a good dozen, with some nice surprises according to the organizer. However, the emphasis should be on new content and “a reasonable number” of new games revealed for the occasion. There will certainly be fewer new titles, but that will not be synonymous with a show at a discount. We can expect the return with great fanfare of games that went into a long silence or were announced a little too early. Others should specify their release date or finally reveal their gameplay.

The games confirmed at The Game Awards 2022

Game Awards 2022 FF16

If the Game Awards 2022 conference holds more surprise announcements, its organizers did not hesitate to confirm the presence of a handful of them. Starting with Dead Space Remake, which will thumb its nose at its emulator The Callisto Protocol which is experiencing a launch punctuated with bugs and performance issues. Isaac Clarke will come to dismember some Necromorphs in the evening. Freshly announced, Tekken 8 will present its gameplay and part of its roster, even if it would have already been leaked.

Eyes should be on three big announcements, though. Naoki Yoshida, producer of Final Fantasy 16, will come to the Game Awards 2022 stage for an exceptional presentation. The surprise will rest solely on the new trailer, the release date being already known in advance. Same story for Star Wars Jedi Survivor which will finally present its gameplay and whose announcement of its launch in March was spoiled by Steam. Diablo 4 will also be present during the festivities, perhaps also to reveal its release date and a good dose of gameplay.

The ports of Monster Hunter Rise are also cordially invited to the event and most certainly its Sunbreak extension which will be released very soon on Switch and PC. Baldur’s Gate 3 has also confirmed its arrival and no one doubts that it will be to reveal the end of its early access with a nice release date and why not console versions. In the department of video game adaptations, Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey will come for an appearance, most certainly to discuss the series. The Last of Us from HBO. In summary, there will for sure be:

Game Awards 2022 Rumor Update

Game Awards 2022 death stranding 2

For the rest of the games featured, rumors are rife, some more persistent and crazier than others. Some leaks however let glimpse other beautiful announcements. Starting with a big DLC ofElden Ring which will be visibly different from the PvP mode just announced by Bandai Namco. According to Jason Schreier, the Japanese publisher would have simply “got rid” of this part before announcing a bigger piece. Another extension which was to create the surprise, Burning Shores of Horizon Forbidden Westwhich is slated for release in April 2023 according to information from Tom Henderson. Leak to take with much more hindsight, Metal Gear Solid Remake could perhaps make an appearance as rumors from various sources are persistent, as was the case for Silent Hill 2 Remake.

A little more certain for its part, the most famous marsupial in the world should make a detour to the Game Awards 2022. Activision has been teasing it for several months for Crash Bandicoot 5. It would rather be a multiplayer-oriented game in the vein of Fall Guys. Shinji Mikami, co-creator of Resident Evil, would work on the sequel or a remake of a popular license in collaboration with Capcom and Platinum Games. The industry pundit had leaked the news in a Facebook post quickly deleted afterwards.

Street Fighter 6 could also come and distribute some bread during the ceremony. The fighting game has indeed been noticed by a classification body suggesting an upcoming announcement and why not a release date. Ditto for The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom which could also present more fully its gameplay and why reveal more about its novelties. And we couldn’t talk about rumors of the Game Awards 2022 without mentioning Hideo Kojima. Rumors around Death Stranding 2 are rife and the industry veteran does not hesitate to titillate his fans with great teasing shots regularly. All the lights are in any case green for him to make his big announcement during the ceremony of his great friend.

The games planned for the ceremony

Game Awards 2022 Marvel's Spider-Man 2

The Game Awards 2022 should also highlight a handful of games expected for 2023. Several titles are expected including Hogwarts Legacy, Forspoken or even Resident Evil Remake 4 which have been the subject of several communication campaigns this year. What the players are hoping for, however, are nice surprises from the manufacturers. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 leads on the PlayStation side, with the PS5 exclusive still slow to reveal its gameplay, which we are already promised to be “fantastic”. Marvel’s Wolverine, on the other hand, seems less likely and it certainly won’t be counted on. The Last of Us factions. The free-to-play multiplayer will be announced next year according to the creator of the license.

If rumors predict an absence from Microsoft so as not to alarm the international competition authorities, the Redmond firm could show gameplay of its next two big cartridges: Redfall and Starfield, one of the most anticipated games of the next year. A small Hellblade 2: Senua’s Saga would still be welcome. As for Nintendo, all hopes are pinned on Metroid Prime 4, although at this point Fire Emblem Engage and Zelda BOTW 2 are more likely. We also hope for the return of titles that have been discreet this year such as Squad Kill the Justice League, Assassin’s Creed Mirage, The Wolf Among Us 2, Dragon Quest 12: The Flames of Fate. We would not be against announcements around Dragon Age 4 (surprise us BioWare), Mass Effect 5 or even a point on the still very nebulous Wonder Woman game.
