One of the most iconic vehicles from the “Mad Max” saga was seen on the set of “Furiosa”, which is currently taking place in Australia. Does the return of the Interceptor mean that Mad Max could also be in George Miller’s next film?
Furiosa : the origins of the heroine revealed
In 2015, George Miller brought an iconic hero back to the cinema with Mad Max: Fury Road. A feature film in which the protagonist played by Tom Hardy, who replaces Mel Gibson, is steal the show by Furiosa, played by Charlize Theron. In the service of Immortan Joe (Hugh Keays-Byrne), the “Imperator” decides to betray him to free his “wives”, young women who serve as his slaves and whom he sequesters so that they give birth their children. On her way, she meets Max Rockatansky and they team up to increase their chances of survival.
The director is currently working on a prequel around this character, soberly titled Furiosa. In this film, Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch, The Ladies Game) replaces Charlize Theron. Chris Hemsworth and Tom Burke round out the cast of this project which will take place over several years. Asked by 7NEWS Australiathe director said last year:
I had no intention of making a big epic movie. It’s a story I wanted to tell. But at the end of the day, there are a lot of different scenes. The only thing I can say about it is that Fury Road took place over three days and two nights. (…) (Furiosa) takes place over several years. So there are a lot of different elements.
Mad Max present in the film?
And among those elements, fans should recognize the franchise’s most iconic vehicle, recently captured on set currently in full swing in Australia. On the snapshot, it is possible to see the Interceptorthe famous Pursuit Special equipped with a V8 engine that Max recovers in the first opus and which explodes in Mad Max 2: The Challenge. If it does not appear in Mad Max: Beyond Thunder Domeshe makes her big comeback in the introduction of Fury Roadbefore the War Boys took it over.
This shot obviously raises many questions. Will Max Rockatansky make an appearance in Furiosa ? George Miller will he call on a new actor to lend him his features? Will we just see it from afar? Will he meet the “Imperator”? Will another character be driving the car? We’ll have to wait a while before we know more.
Given that the feature film will take place over several years and that George Miller himself recognizes the inconsistencies in the timeline of the saga, everything seems possible. Furiosa will come out May 22, 2024 in French theaters.
