Broadcast this evening on M6, the animated film Frozen was an unprecedented success when it was released. A sequel has since emerged, making even more money than the first episode. What guarantees a 3rd film?
Huge global box office success (grossed $ 1.28 billion according to Box Office Mojo), Frozen (2013) by Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee tells the story of the princesses of the kingdom of Arendelle, Anna and Elsa . Two sisters who also enchanted children around the world in a sequel that saw the light of day in 2019.
Unsurprisingly, Frozen 2 also marked the global box office by collecting $ 1.45 billion. It thus became the highest grossing animated film in history (if we exclude the 2019 version of the Lion King and its hybrid technology).
With such results, it would be surprising if Disney did not commission a third episode of the adventures of the two heroines in the future. But so far, nothing has been announced!
If a return to Arendelle did take place in 2020 through the short film The Adventures of Olaf, broadcast on Disney +, fans will have to be patient before hearing from a potential Frozen 3.
One of the writers of the 2nd opus, Marc Smith, had declared in 2020 to Collider :
We have not had any discussions about it. I think Frozen 2 is still too fresh on everyone’s minds to think about what will happen beyond it.
During the promotion of the film, Jennifer Lee had also confided that another component was not yet on the program. “To us, it sounds like what we planned to accomplish. It feels like an end, but we also felt that when we did the first one. We do not know. I think now it feels like the end”She told Digital spy.
