Like many British actors, Tom Holland would see himself playing James Bond! A few years ago, he also proposed to Sony an idea for a film on the youth of the famous secret agent.
Now that Daniel Craig has said his farewell to James Bond, the character is back on the market. A highly coveted role, which even Tom Holland would like to play, he who, at the top of his 25 years, seems a little too young to play the spy… Unless he tells about his youth!
And that’s exactly what the Spider-Man interpreter proposed to Sony a few years ago, as he confided in the pages of the magazine. Total Film. “I had a meeting with Sony, after or during Spider-Man 2 [Far From Home], to pitch to them this idea I had of a young Bond”, He says.
And to continue, lucid: “It was the origin story of James Bond. It didn’t really make sense. It didn’t work. It was a young boy’s dream and I don’t think the Bond rights holders were particularly interested.”
The meeting will not have been in vain, however, since it finally allowed Tom Holland to obtain the role of the hero of the adaptation of the famous video game Uncharted, expected on our screens on February 16.
From a young Bond to a young Drake
“The idea of a young Bond film sparked this idea then, that it was possible to do a Nathan Drake story as an origin story, rather than as an addition to the games. And that opened up a conversation”, He recalls.
Because before the actor was announced in the skin of Nathan Drake in 2017, the feature film Uncharted had been in the works for many years and many writers and directors had succeeded at its head.
Shortly before the announcement of the recruitment of Tom Holland, Joe Carnahan had even mentioned the crude and violent scenario he had planned for the film which was not yet a prequel. This script and its author were then dropped from the project to give free rein to a new plot with a rejuvenated Nathan Drake, which was ultimately directed by Ruben Fleischer.
