Netflix has just celebrated itself with its mega-event “Tudum” and released tons of trailers and/or start dates – for “Manifesto” Season 4, for “The Witcher: Blood Origin”, to “1899” by the “Dark” makers and, and, and. There was no trailer for the new Netflix series “3 Body Problem” – it would be a bit too early for that – but during the event cast and crew introduced the sci-fi series and gave exclusive first insights behind the scenes and into first scenes from the highly anticipated series!
Why is “3 Body Problem” so highly anticipated? It’s not only the adaptation of Cixin Liu’s best-selling series of the same name, but also the first mega-series by David Benioff and DB Weiss after “Game Of Thrones”. In the meantime, they have also produced the series “The Professor” with “Grey’s Anatomy” star Sandra Oh for Netflix, but baked much smaller breads with this production-technically.
Here is the recording of the “Tudum” event for you – at minute 31 it starts with the presentation of “3 Body Problem”, the sequence lasts about two minutes:
“3 Body Problem” (Netflix chooses this spelling for the overlays in the video – the novel is originally called “The Three-Body Problem”) is about the attempt by Chinese scientists to make contact with extraterrestrial life in the 1960s. However, there is no response to the signals sent into space – for the time being! Because 50 years later, a reaction does occur and it changes life on earth forever.
Incidentally, in the German translation, the first volume of the sci-fi trilogy is called “The Three Suns”. The title refers to the home planet of the alien species that is making contact with humans. Because it has three suns, which is why the extraterrestrials are called “Trisolarians” – and the book series the “Trisolaris” trilogy.

The statements made by the cast and crew in the above video suggest that a great deal of technical effort was put into the shooting of “3 Body Problem” and that we can hope for epic images. Actress Jess Hong speaks of one “visual feast”actor Alex Sharp raves about “breakthrough technology” used in the shoot.
And “Game Of Thrones” veteran John Bradley calls the series “probably one of the most complex, ambitious productions viewers have ever seen”. Speaking of “Game Of Thrones”: Liam Cunningham is also on board as an actor.
3 Body Problem is coming to Netflix in 2023, the exact launch date is not yet known.
