The first visual has been released from the biographical drama film “Joika”, which will tell the life story of American ballerina Joy Womack. The shooting of the movie continues in Poland.
In Joika, Joy Womack is played by Talia Ryder, who starred in Never Rarely Sometimes Always and West Side Story. Diane Kruger, who shares the lead role with Ryder, plays Tatiyana Volkova, the ballet instructor, and mentor of Womack. In the first image of the movie, we see these two names practicing ballet.
Joy Womack is one of the first Western ballerinas to be accepted to and graduated from Russia’s famous Bolshoi Ballet Academy. The film’s cast includes many actors with ballet backgrounds, including Talia Ryder and Diane Kruger.
A classically trained dancer, Ryder trained at the Joffrey Ballet Academy and worked with both New York Ballet principal dancer Daniel Ulbricht and Womack himself in preparation for the film. Diane Kruger was a ballerina before she became an actress. She actually ended her ballet career when she broke her knee at the age of thirteen. In preparation for the role of Volkova, she gave ballet lessons in New York with a Russian teacher and a former principal ballerina.
The screenwriter and director of the film, James Napier Robertson, previously signed the mystery film “I’m Not Harry Jenson” and the movie The Dark Horse, which tells the life of a New Zealand chess champion. Joika will be the director’s third feature film.
The cast of Joika also includes names such as Tomasz Kot, Karolina Gruszka, Oleg Ivenko, Borys Szyc, Natasha Alderslade and Martin Hugh Henley.
