Emily Deschanel plays psychiatrist Dr. Susanne Mathis. Her latest patient is a particularly difficult case – also because this affects Suzanne emotionally in an unusually strong way. It is about the teenager Mae (Madeleine Arthur), who has just escaped from the clutches of a satanic cult.
In order to lead the girl back to a regular life, the therapist takes her into her private home. While husband Peter (Sam Jaeger) is still skeptical at first, Suzanne’s daughters in particular support their mother and Mae wherever and however they can. Which is why the latter actually seems to be slowly putting the horrific events of her years as a member of the cult behind her.
But then more and more mysterious things happen in and around the family home. Prompted by her elders (Xaria Dotson), Suzanne begins to investigate Mae’s past with the help of Detective Lopez (Gerardo Celasco). The two soon uncover some chilling facts that show not only Suzanne herself but also her loved ones are in grave danger…
“Devil In Ohio” starts on September 2, 2022 exclusively on the streaming service Netflix. On this day, all eight episodes, each about 45 minutes long, will be made available for retrieval.
Since this is a “limited series”, there should be a definitive conclusion at the end of the last episode. A frustrating cancellation after a cliffhanger with no hope of resolution is thus avoided in all likelihood.
The series was created by Daria Polatin, who also acted as showrunner and screenwriter. Previously, the American wrote and produced episodes for popular television and streaming shows such as Jack Ryan,Castle Rock” and “Condor”. Plays the main role of the caring psychiatrist Emily Deschanel, known worldwide as Dr. Temperance Brennan from twelve seasons of the hit crime series Bones.
