For the movie “Father Stu” Mark Wahlberg gained about 13 kilos. An impressive weight gain for the actor who had to submit to a fattening diet far from pleasant.
The true story of Father Stu
When we think of actors capable of physically transforming for a role, the name of Christian Bale often comes up. But Mark Wahlberg is no exception and proves it now fifty years old with Father Stu. In Rosalind Ross’ feature film, the actor plays Stuart Long, a former boxer who decides to become a priest after a serious road accident. A funny plot that is inspired by a true story and should give rise to a dramatic film tinged with funny and light moments, as we could glimpse in the trailer.

For this role, Mark Wahlberg, therefore, agreed to change his body. Because the film will first show him as very sharp as a boxer, before pointing out his weight gain came after taking office in the Church. During filming, the actor had already shared a before/after photo to testify to the radical evolution of his body. He now looks back on this experience, which was difficult, to say the least.
How Mark Wahlberg gained so much weight
In a recent interview for EW Marc Wahlberg says he had to take approximately 13 kilos in just six weeks. For this, he had to drastically increase his number of calories per day.
I started with 7,000 calories for the first two weeks, then 11,000 calories for the last four weeks. None of it was fun except the first meal which was amazing as I had never eaten so much before. But afterwards, when you’re already full and you need to eat more, and at my age, it’s not a healthy thing to do, to try to put on so much weight in such a short time.
An intense and far from fun experience for the actor. Especially since the contents of his meals were not so pleasant. He didn’t just chain the “ice cream and pizza“, but tried to gain weight by keeping some sort of sound logic. Here’s how he describes his menu:
It was a dozen eggs and a dozen pieces of bacon, two baked potatoes, a Porterhouse steak, two bowls of white rice and a glass of olive oil. The first two weeks were high in protein. The next two weeks there were a lot of carbs. The last two weeks, starches, then sodium, just to be as bloated as possible. So not very fun.
Father Stu will therefore have been a real challenge for Mark Wahlberg, who has since lost all his extra pounds. An experience of which he remains proud when he sees the result on the screen. We hope to be able to discover it soon in French cinemas. For the time being, Father Stu does not have a release date with us.
