Long awaited by fans of the saga, will the Expendables 4 finally see the light of day? We have the answer!
In August 2010, Sylvester Stallone and his troupe of big arms dynamited the big screen with the 1st opus of the saga Expendables. The film having brought in nearly $300 million in worldwide revenue, two sequels were released in 2012 and 2014. A 4th part was even started very quickly, but not everything went as planned.
Unfortunately, the production experienced considerable setbacks, which we told you about in this article to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the franchise. Seven years later, the project is well and truly back on track! In August 2021, Stallone announced on his social networks the imminent shooting of the 4th opus.
Two months later, in October 2021, shooting began for the interpreter of Barney Ross and the band of mercenaries. Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren and Randy Couture were back in action! They were joined by newcomers: Megan Fox, 50 Cent, Andy Garcia, Tony Jaa and Iko Uwais.
The latter will play the big bad of this 4th part. The 38-year-old comedian is a formidable fighter and seasoned martial artist. He impressed the world in the diptych The Raid in 2012 and 2014 before moving to Hollywood.
We saw it in particular in Star Wars 7, 22 Miles with Mark Wahlberg or the recent Snake Eyes, spin-off of GI Joe. The big arm team will have a hard time facing Iko Uwais as a bad guy. The actor may well break a few necks without any mercy!
We don’t know much about the story of this 4th episode of The Expendables. However, Stallone didn’t last long on set, stating that he “passed the baton to Jason Statham and his expert hands”.
On October 18, the conductor of the saga confided that he had finished shooting his scenes. In a video posted on his Instagram account, the legendary interpreter of Rocky also confirms that this 4th episode will be his last.
The 75-year-old comedian, who seemed very moved, clarified that it was a conclusion “bittersweet” for his character and that he was ready to “passing the torch to Lee Christmas aka Jason Statham.”
“Last Expendables for me. Today is my last day on set…I’m going home”, posted Sylvester Stallone in the comments of his video. Does this farewell to Barney Ross well before the end of the shots mean that his character will pass the weapon to the left? Or maybe he will bow out by taking a well-deserved retirement?
We will only know when the film is released, the date of which has not yet been announced. Note that we should find the actor in Samaritan, in which he portrays an aging superhero. Directed by Julius Avery, this film will be released on August 31, 2022.
In the meantime, the filming of The Expendables 4 continued in November, with Jason Statham in very good shape! We can see it in this video posted by the actor on Instagram, revealing a very brutal bar fight.
After Stallone, Simon West and Patrick Hughes, it’s Scott Waugh (Need For Speed) who took the controls of this 4th opus of The Expendables. With the shooting now complete, the director is currently working on post-production. A release date should be announced shortly.
