Crime novels are not only a hit on German television, but also a hit in the cinema and with streaming services – this proves not least “Knives Out“, which received tremendous reviews from fans and the trade press in 2020 (including 4.5 out of 5 stars from DashFUN) and ended up in 3rd place in the joint annual ranking of the editors of DashFUN and Moviepilot.
At the box office played “Knives Out’ almost eight times its budget of 40 million dollars (namely more than 311 million), so that ‘Star Wars 8” director Rian Johnson was quickly commissioned with two sequels, which would ultimately not be made for the cinema but for Netflix.
The first trailer for Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, as the sequel is officially titled, is finally here. “Knives Out 2” will be released almost two years after the first part on December 23, 2022 on Netflix. In the USA there will also be a short theatrical release beforehand, it’s quite possible that this will also happen in this country. However, there is no date or confirmation for this yet.
While “Knives Out” still revolved around the (alleged?) murder of family patriarch and crime writer Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer) and mainly played in his magnificent estate and surroundings, it ends with the private investigator Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) played by ex-James Bond Daniel Craig ) this time in more exotic realms – Agatha Christie’s “Death on the Nile” with Hercule Poirot says hello.
In “Glass Onion” the tech billionaire Miles Bron (Edward Norton) invites some guests to his luxury yacht and his private island in sunny Greece. However, when one of the guests is found dead, Benoit Blanc has to prove his sleuth skills again and solve the case…
Besides Daniel Craig, no stars and characters from the first film are supposed to return (which you can also watch on Netflix recently, by the way), but in “Knives Out 2” but numerous other familiar faces and names on board: Dave Bautista, Ethan Hawke, Janelle Monáe, Jessica Henwick, Kate Hudson, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr. and Madelyn Cline.
