After three films and a series, the legendary Ash Williams is back in the game “Evil Dead – The Game”. A limited program, but which does not skimp on hemoglobin and which has something to please fans of Sam Raimi’s trilogy.
Evil Dead : the cult saga continues in video games
In 1981, Sam Raimi made a name for himself in horror cinema with Evil Dead. A small film shot for less than 400,000 dollars, and which brought in more than 29 million worldwide. Despite this modest budget, the director and his team redouble their inventiveness to strike the retinas of the spectators.
Twirling camera movements adopting the point of view of demonic spirits wanting to enter a small isolated cabin in a Tennessee forest, bewildering close-ups on faces, corpses decomposing frame by frame, exacerbated violence… Immersive staging quickly imposes the feature film as a cult object.
Evil Dead, it’s also the birth of an essential character : Ash Williams, played by Bruce Campbell. After being forced to bury his possessed girlfriend and decapitate her with a shovel, the chainsaw-wielding hero experiences a new nightmare in Evil Dead 2a much more comical opus, and goes back in time in Evil Dead III: The Army of Darkness. In 2015, 22 years after the release of this third installment, the hero badass is entitled to its series with Ash vs. Evil Dead.
Fede Álvarez takes over the franchise in 2013 and signs the remake Evil Dead. This year, it’s with the video game Evil Dead – The Game that the saga is getting a makeover. The occasion of find the scathing humor of Sam Raimi, to embody different versions of Ash but also to slip into the skin of a demon. All while spilling, of course, a massive amount of blood.
A program that has everything to delight fans
Taking many elements from the original trilogy, Evil Dead – The Game offers several modes. The game developed by Saber Interactive allows first of all tointegrate a group of four survivors with the objective of finding the pages of the Necronomicon and the dagger of Kandar, in order to close the space-time portal opened by a demon. It is therefore also possible to place yourself from the opposing point of view by deciding to be the evil creature supposed to annihilate Ash and his fellow massacrers.
Evil Dead – The Game furthermore includes several missions partly based on the plots of the films. In the first, which starts in the famous cabin where the hatch leading to the cellar is sealed to hold a creature, Ash must find the necklace of his late girlfriend Linda, before digging up her head in order to relieve her heartache. In another, he ventures into the woods to eradicate undead vermin. Finally, when young people steal his mythical car inside which is Kandar’s dagger, he has no choice but to try to flush them out.
Yes graphics are disappointingfans of the franchise will enjoy killing possessed and other monsters with chainsaws and double-barrels. Limited but fun, Evil Dead – The Game is clearly reserved for fans of the Sam Raimi trilogy and Bruce Campbell lines. The game is available on PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series and soon on Nintendo Switch.
