FAMILY AND QUIPROQUOS
When Everything smiles on us begins, spectators discover a loving and ordinary family. She meets up for breakfast before going separate ways to start the day. Except that things get complicated: behind their apparent complicity, the two parents, Audrey and Jérôme, lead a double life. He frequents the young Iseult. She, Alberto, a handsome Italian. And as if that were not enough, they each have the same idea, that of isolating themselves in the family country house.
Arrived on the scene, it is the disenchantment. Once their secrets are revealed, it’s time to settle scores, but the rest of the family are also, by chance, invited to the party. Rhythmic, sunny and obviously funny, Mélissa Drigeard’s film is based on situational comedy. The public rejoices at the idea of seeing these characters face each other and struggle with the many misunderstandings. On screen, Stéphane De Groodt and Elsa Zylberstein let go completely. It must be said that the two performers have something to express their respective madness, with in particular a nervous breakdown sequence offered by Elsa Zylberstein.
“She plays on edge, everything sweats inside her, she is not afraid of anything and I have always found her magnificent, specifies the director. As with Karin Viard or Sandrine Kiberlain, there is also something very theatrical in her acting. ” As for Stéphane de Groodt, she explains: “He has proven to be an excellent setmate, very cerebral, who uses words as tools.. “The two performers are surrounded, among others, by Guy Marchand, Anne Benoît, Karidja Touré, Emilie Caen and Giovanni Cirfiera.
There is no doubt that the recipe for Everything smiles on us has something to seduce the public. In a world where the Covid had not yet disrupted daily life, the film won no less than 3 prizes at the Alpe d’Huez Festival, in January 2020: the Prize for female and male interpretation, as well as the Special Jury Prize. Postponed many times because of the pandemic, comedy finally arrives with, perhaps, the extension of this great success.
