After having made spectators tremble in 2009, Esther will be back in a prequel. Discover the release date as well as a first image of “Esther 2: the origins”.
Esther returns to the cinema
We discovered her terrible secret in December 2009. Beneath her innocent airs, Esther, an orphan who had just been adopted by a loving family was in fact a dangerous psycho woman suffering from a rare disease that made her look like a little girl. Escaped from an Estonian psychiatric hospital, Lena Klammer, her real name, had taken refuge in the United States and had committed her first murder there.
Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, the film marked many viewers with its clever and devilish twist, which was chilling. In the title role, the young Isabelle Fuhrman was sparking alongside Vera Farmiga and Peter Sarsgaard who portrayed her adoptive parents helpless in the face of her violence.
While we didn’t expect to see her again anytime soon, Esther (or rather Lena) will soon be back on our screens in the film Esther 2: the origins.
A release date and a first image
As its name suggests, the film directed by William Brent Bell (The Boy) will return to the origins of Lena Klammer. It is therefore a prequel. Thus, it will take place at the time of his arrival in the United States, after his escape from the Estonian psychiatric hospital. We will witness his first murder.
Isabelle Fuhrman is back to play the lead role. A first official image from the film has been unveiled.
Aged 24 at the time of filming (she was 12 in the first film), the actress has been digitally rejuvenated and using makeup. She had to put herself back in Esther’s shoes, and act like a 10-year-old child.
Distributed in France by Metropolitan FilmExport, the film now has a release date: August 17, 2022. A trailer should be unveiled in the coming days. It will allow us to know more about the plot.
