Released in 2018, Equalizer 2 will be broadcast tonight on TF1. The opportunity to wonder if this action film worn by Denzel Washington will one day be entitled to a sequel …
A few months after the success of the big-screen adaptation of the 80s series The Equalizer in 2014, Sony commissioned a sequel to the adventures of Robert McCall (Denzel Washington), still directed by Antoine Fuqua. However, fans must have been very patient before discovering it since this second episode only arrived in the cinema in 2018.
With very good results at the box office – the film collected 190 million dollars in the world, almost as much as the first opus -, one would have thought that a third part was going to be quickly started. However, this was not the case and even today an Equalizer 3 is not officially in the pipeline.
ANTOINE FUQUA LEAVING
However, during the promotion of the second film – which marked the first time that Antoine Fuqua and Denzel Washington tried their hand at the exercise of the sequel – the director declared himself “absoutely”Leaving for a third episode. To the Hollywood Reporter, he had thus indicated:
Personally, I would love to see that happen. (…) Sony has already told me about it. It would be really great to do one again with Denzel.
And to specify: “I would love to see this happen internationally, I think Denzel would make a great James Bond character.”
Since then, however, the project has not moved forward. Which does not mean that it will never happen but it is certainly not for now. In the meantime, Antoine Fuqua is filming the Apple tv + Emancipation movie with Will Smith and has two other feature films ready: The Guilty with Jake Gyllenhaal (available October 1 on Netflix) and Infinite with Mark Wahlberg.
Denzel Washington, for his part, is expected as Lord Macbeth in Joel Coen’s adaptation of Shakespeare’s classic. He also directed a feature film worn by Michael B. Jordan, A Journal for Jordan, in theaters on January 12, 2022.
A SERIES COMING SOON ON M6
But while Robert McCall won’t be returning straight away as Washington, the character was recently given a reimagination by becoming Robyn McCall (played by Queen Latifah) in a series that will be broadcast soon on M6.
