In less than two weeks, the Fortnite community has raised an astronomical sum for Ukraine. Millions raised go directly to humanitarian aid.
“The video game is bad, see me” some will continue to say against all odds, and yet this art is still illustrated in a positive way. From March 20 to April 3, 2022, Epic Games promised to donate all Fortnite profits to “provide more aid to the people of Ukraine”. The operation was completed and the results are impressive.
When Fortnite helps Ukraine
Over this short period, the community Fortnite will have raised $144 million to help the victims of the war in Ukraine. A clearly crazy sum is redistributed to the following humanitarian organizations: Unicef, Direct Relief, World Food Program (WFP), UNHCR the UN Refugee Agency, and finally World Central Kitchen (kitchen).
We offer our sincere thanks for your support of humanitarian aid for the victims of the war in Ukraine. Together with the Fortnite and Xbox community, we raised $144 million for Direct Relief, Unicef, World Food Programme, UNHCR the UN Refugee Agency and World Central Kitchen.
A collective effort
This is all the stronger since on March 30, the amount was 100 million dollars. In this operation, Xbox has also given up its slice of the pie to participate in this collective effort. If Epic Games has made regular posts to take stock of the kitty, the money has been paid to it as it goes along in order to meet the needs of the population without any expectation.
Such a large sum further demonstrates the power of Fortnite and its ability to bring together a colossal number of players online. Besides, it’s not every day that microtransactions finally serve an honest purpose.
Lately, the battle royale got a Permanent zero construction mode. Fortnite is available on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, iOS, and Android.
