Sensitive and understanding, she does everything to hide the sadness of not being like her own, fearing rejection. When her family’s fabulous home is threatened and in danger of disappearing, the heroine is the only one to perceive the danger. She will have to fight to be heard and to save this wonderful place called Encanto.
Awarded by the Oscar for Best Animated Film in early 2022, Encantothe fantastic Madrigal family is full of catchy songs, starting with Let’s not talk about Brunowhich broke a record held by the unmissable Let It Go of Snow Queen.
An inspiring trip to Colombia
The feature film also owes a lot to its magnificent setting. Charise Castro Smith explains about it:
To tell a story inspired by Colombia, you had to recreate the atmosphere.
Part of the film crew went to Cocora Valley. A sumptuous setting that served as the basis for the landscapes in the middle of which the Madrigals are installed.
For the village of the film as well as the exterior of the Casitathe animators were inspired by Barichara architecturea steep town of less than 10,000 inhabitants considered theone of the most beautiful in Colombia.
The national park of Los Estoraques and its unique rock formations also strongly influenced the team for Bruno’s gigantic and disturbing bedroom, while the tropical rainforests of Chocó-Darién close to the Pacific coast gave ideas for that of the young Antonio. For Isabela’s prowess, able to grow vegetation anywhere, there’s nothing like the Medellín Flower Festival as a source of inspiration.
Finally, the many yellow butterflies ofEncanto are a nod to Gabriel García Márquezthe author of A hundred years of loneliness who observed them around his grandparents’ house in Aracataca, a town in the north of the country located in the department of Magdalena.
