Warner has just released the very first information about the sequel to “Dune”. Unsurprisingly, filmmaker Denis Villeneuve will return to directing the second chapter of the mastodon “Dune”!
Dune : an undeniable critical success
Released on September 15 in French cinemas, Dune just landed on HBO Max and in American theaters. Directed by Denis Villeneuve, the film obviously adapts Frank Herbert’s iconic novel. Supported by a truly amazing cast, notably composed of Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Jason Momoa, Zendaya or even Javier Bardem, Dune receives rave reviews, whether from the press or spectators. The 2h40 of epic did not cool the spectators since the feature film counts for the moment already $ 129 million in global box office revenue, while its release on American soil only intervenes 22 october !
And even if this score is below Warner’s expectations, there should logically be a second opus. This is in any case what confirms Ann Sarnoff, CEO of Warner Bros.
A second chapter is well planned
During a long interview with Deadline, Ann Sarnoff expanded on different topics. She did indeed talk about the series The Sopranos, from the fourth film Matrix, Where again from the second chapter of Dune, the subject that interests us here. At the question “Will we have a sequel to Dune?” “, Ann Sarnoff responds bluntly:
If you watch the movie, you see how it ends. I think you pretty much know the answer to that question.
It’s obvious, but so far Warner has yet to officially give Denis Villeneuve the green light. This statement is in any case good news for the fans, for Denis Villeneuve, but above all for the Legendary studio, which financed most of the budget of Dune. The filmmaker also revealed that this second chapter will focus more on Chami, the heroine embodied by Zendaya, and which is revealed at the end of the first part. In the meantime, all eyes are on this weekend’s US box office, to study the performance of Dune in the rooms, but also on HBO Max.
