Produced by DreamWorks, the feature film met with rapid and triumphant success. The film is nominated twice at the Oscars and brings in more than $ 494 million in box office revenue (for a budget of 165 million). These will be released in 2014 and 2019 respectively. In all, the trilogy Dragons brings back more than $ 1.6 billion at the box office.
In the meantime, DreamWorks is also producing an animated series, which was released from 2012 to 2018. Aired first on Cartoon Network and then on Netflix, this animated series Dragons serves to make the link between the first two films. In all, eight seasons were produced, for a total of 118 episodes. Now, DreamWorks and Universal have just formalized a brand new series derived from the Dragons universe: Dragons: The Nine Realms.
