The “Dopesick” series will focus on the sensitive subject of the opioid crisis that has plagued the United States for some time. A health drama that continues to claim victims. The first trailer sets the tone, with Michael Keaton as a doctor witnessing this disaster.

Dopesick : America on opioid

The opioid crisis is a public health issue in the United States. However, the cinema and the series do not seize it more than that whereas there would be things to say about it. It will be discussed in Dopesick, a series carried by an enticing casting. Michael Keaton will play a doctor who witnesses the spread of opioids in the market and sees the devastation on the population. The star will share the bill with Peter Sarsgaard, Michael Stuhlbarg, Will Poulter, John Hoogenakker, Kaitlyn Dever and Rosario Dawson. Behind the camera, we will find Barry Levinson.

The onset of this scourge can be dated to 1995, when Purdue Pharma launched OxyContin. A medicine containing oxycodone, a dangerous substance derived from opium capable of being highly addictive. This novelty was intended to help people suffering from a serious illness and provide them with relief from their pain. However, Purdue Pharma refrained from highlighting the side effects and even played the lie card to sell their product by pallet. The opioid crisis continues to be a major societal problem in Uncle Sam’s country today.

Not the only project

As said previously, the subject deserves attention and the format of the series allows you to take a longer interest than with a film. Moreover, we remember that a series for Netflix on this crisis is also in development. At the beginning of last year, we learned that Peter Berg was to direct the show. We haven’t heard from it in a while, but it may well be still relevant.

Dopesick should start broadcasting on October 13 on Hulu, a platform owned by Disney +. In France, given that it does not exist, we will be able, a priori, to discover the series on Disney + in the Star category. We do not know, however, whether the broadcast will take place at the same time here or whether it will be necessary to wait.
