Released on December 24, 2021, “Don’t Look Up” never ceases to be talked about. Led by a brilliant Leonardo DiCaprio, Adam McKay’s film became in 17 days Netflix’s second-biggest success for a feature film, behind the “Red Notice” box. And that order could very quickly change.
Don’t Look Up : to infinity of numbers and beyond
Action comedy Red Notice may start to worry. For the time being, Netflix’s biggest success with 364 million hours viewed in its first 28 days, the film starring Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds and Gal Gadot indeed sees Don’t Look Up approach at very high speed. This is the measure that Netflix has chosen to constitute its ranking, considering that it is in this period of time that the vast majority of viewings take place. And while the Adam McKay film has yet to hit those 28 days of airing, it is already at 321.5 million hours viewed. It has thus already largely exceeded Bird Box and its 282 million hours, holder until then of the second place.
A film that has everything to be crowned
Is Satire on the End of the World a better film in quality than Red Notice ? Most certainly, since it opposes the action comedy, which is based essentially on the ultra-popularity of its three stars, a rich and coherent review of the relation to information and the collusion of the powers which form the opinion. If the cast of Don’t Look Up is particularly brilliant (Leonardo DiCaprio, Meryl Streep, Cate Blanchett, Jennifer Lawrence, Jonah Hill, etc.), he puts himself at the service of the screenplay. Which is therefore the reverse of Red Notice, where the script does not care about its inconsistencies as long as its stars are doing the show.

This cinematic quality has undoubtedly not escaped the audience of Netflix. This has indeed added in the week of January 2 to 9 58.2 million hours. With his very current speech and his often impressive spectacle, and especially still ten days to garner new views, Don’t Look Up is therefore in a good position to overtake very soon Red Notice.
