Expected on March 23, 2022 in our theaters, “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” is still shrouded in mystery. But the identity of her villain may have been revealed by accident.
Of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, not much is currently known apart from the director (Sam Raimi succeeds Scott Derrickson). And the cast, in which Benedict Cumberbatch will find Rachel McAdams, Benedict Wong and Chiwetel Ejiofor, while Elizabeth Olsen will have a key role in the guise of Scarlet Witch. But that’s it, and for example we don’t know the identity of the villain in the story.
When Scott Derrickson was still attached to the project, there was talk of Nightmare, whose name came up during the broadcast of WandaVision. Like that of Mephisto, the devil of the Marvel universe, which would also have its place against Doctor Strange. But it seems that the solution is to be found under the ocean.
If we are to believe the CV of actress Yenifer Molina on the professional platform Mandy. We can indeed read that she plays a role in Sam Raimi’s film and that her character participates in a fight against Gargantos. Little known to the general public, the latter is a sea monster with the appearance of a giant octopus, who works for Naga, the emperor of the lost world of Lemuria.
Now, Naga and Gargantos were enemies of the sea prince Namor. And a tweet (quickly deleted) from Scott Derrickson in March 2019 suggested that this one, passed from super-villain to superhero in the comic books, could be an antagonist of Doctor Strange in the film. All of this is of course to be taken with a grain of salt for now, as long as nothing has been announced by Marvel.
But this is not the first time that the name of Namor is associated, more or less directly, with Doctor Strange 2. Linked to the X-Men in the comic books, therefore with the Fox cinema side, the character can integrate the Marvel Cinematic Universe without difficulty since the acquisition of the studio by Disney. And its introduction would also set the stage for the arrival of the mutants and Fantastic Four, in addition to exploring the underwater side of the MCU.
It remains to be seen whether Namor will be present and the place he will occupy in the plot. Because he can just as easily be the main antagonist as a secondary villain. And even appear only via an easter egg preparing its arrival in another project. Answer, no later than March 23, 2022 in our theaters.
Next meeting at the cinema with Marvel: September 1 thanks to “Shang-Chi”
