Because we quickly learn that the previous heroine is behind the threat to America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez) and the entire multiverse. But this was not always the plan.
As confirmed by author Michael Waldron, the legendary Marvel villain Nightmare was originally intended to be the adversary for Doctor Strange be. It would be a special opponent for the hero. Because Nightmare was Strange’s very first comic book adversary when Stan Lee and Steve Ditko introduced the hero character in the 1963 comic book Strange Tales #110.
Waldron reveals that Nightmare didn’t really fit the multiverse concept and was therefore rejected – well before his commitment and that of director Sam Raimi.

The big question would just be how to do Nightmare with the at the end of “Doctor Strange Problems teased for the multiverse in The Multiverse Of Madness. Because author Waldron has already explained that Nightmare doesn’t really fit in with it and has therefore already been rejected for the second part.
The incursions mentioned by Strange’s new comrade-in-arms and (later) great love Clea (Charlize Theron) point in a completely different direction – to a gigantic Marvel event, which would be bigger than the “Infinity War”. We explain what this is all about in the following video.
