Disney +: the ads are coming and it’s as bad as on Netflix

The Netflix rival is completely revising its offer. In the United States, Disney+ is revising its prices upwards and announcing a new subscription with advertisements. Is it worse than its competitor?

A subscription with Disney+ ads

Disney+ will now come in two different packages. So far the streaming platform bringing together Disney, Marvel, Star Wars et consorts differed from the competition by its unique subscription despite additional packs (Hulu, ESPN). Things will change on the American continent. As of December 8, 2022, the subscription will increase from 7.99 to 10.99 dollars per month, an increase of 30%. Like its rival, the platform will also introduce a new cheaper subscription, but with advertising.

Billed at $7.99 per month, this solution will introduce partially intrusive advertisements: they will appear before the start of the video and throughout the playback. ” It’s similar to commercials during a traditional TV show “Explains Disney + on its site. In total, 4 minutes of advertising will be broadcast every hour. By way of comparison, Netflix displays an average of 4 to 5 minutes of advertising per hour of viewing for a duration of 15 to 30 seconds before or during content.

A rise in prices also in France?

The contours around the subscription with Disney+ ads are blurred. We only know that it will give access to the entire catalog of the SVoD platform and that certain content will be spared from commercial advertisements, in particular children’s programs. However, the formula will remove popular features such as SharePlay or GroupWatch, allowing you to watch a program simultaneously with a loved one. The entertainment giant hasn’t said whether the image quality will be affected, as is the case on Netflix which only offers 720p.

If nothing has been confirmed for the moment, it is very likely that this Disney + price increase and the subscription with pubs will also arrive in France in the near future. Without getting too wet, we can expect a release sometime next year here, at least if the platform actually wants to launch its new offer outside the US market. With us, the Disney Plus subscription is still billed at the price of € 8.99 … for the moment at least.
