After the Investor Day which had caused so much talk, the firm with big ears inaugurated a new event with the Disney + Day which was devoted only to outings on the small screen. Marvel, Star Wars or Pixar, we take stock of everything we need to remember.
What does Disney + have in store for us in the coming months?
During the first half of December 2020, Disney had struck a blow with a slew of announcements during the Investor Day. We remember the many Marvel titles announced as well as everything that revolved around Star Wars. In 2021, the Hollywood giant decided to organize Disney + Day to communicate on the future of its platform. Everyone is aware that an intense war is taking place on the small screen and the service did not take long to establish itself as a staple of the landscape. It must be said that with the licenses under control, there is something to make the public want to afford a subscription. We expected major announcements from this Disney + Day regarding superheroes and Stars Wars. What should we take away from the event? We take stock of all the announcements that were worth the detour.
Disney bets on its popular titles
We know the policy of Disney with its franchises and its successes. The small screen is not at all a field for carrying out experiments and the studio prefers to bet on universes which have proved their worth. This is indeed still the case, judging by the titles unveiled: the series Baymax! taken from New heroes, a film about the Tic and Tac rangers, a new episode of The Ice Age, Following Once upon a time, a new version of A dime a dozen, a series taken from Zootopia, another that will extend the trilogy Cars and a series adaptation of Spiderwick Chronicles. In addition, we also heard from the show Willow and D’Hocus pocus 2. Since a touch of originality is needed, we note the presence of Family weekend an original French creation worn by Éric Judor.
Too few Star Wars
There were persistent rumors that a trailer for the series Obi-wan kenobi was going to make the event during Disney + Day. To our regret, we only had a small glimpse behind the scenes, with some concept arts to chew on. The disappointment was intense with regard to Star Wars as we had nothing of significance to peck. Nor a glimpse ofAndor nor even an announcement that is even slightly significant.
What’s new at Marvel?
Well aware that the Marvel chapter was the most anticipated of the event, it was as a final bouquet that it was proposed. In the area of announcements, disappointment is also in order since nothing very attractive was revealed. In addition to the anthology of logos to which we had the right, we were able to learn that a series Echo was indeed in preparation, as was the confirmation that a show dedicated to Agatha Harkness was planned. Not surprisingly, these two series were already known thanks to the work of the American press. We also got to see logos of well-known titles and there were a few drink announcements regarding the animation. The most notable is undoubtedly that which concerns X-Men ’97, following the cult program launched in the 90s. However, it will be necessary to wait until 2023 to discover it.
The sympathetic What If …? got his season 2, and Spider-Man will be making his way to the small screen with Freshman Year, an animated series that will take place before the films with Tom Holland. We do not know much more for the moment but we will have to watch this prequel carefully.
For those who expected more concrete, Marvel offered images of some series live. We were able to lay our eyes on teasers of She-hulk, Moon knight and Ms Marvel. To choose between these three, we will retain the second on this list, which caught our attention with its dark atmosphere.
Finally, to finish, a first image of Secret Invasion has been unveiled. We can see on it Nick Fury without his eye patch. It does not advance us more on the content of the series – which will not be able to restore all the greatness of the comics – but Samuel L. Jackson sweats the class!
