The name of the director of the movie, which is expected to be released in 2024, has been announced.
Years later, a sequel is coming to 1987’s Dirty Dancing (First Love, First Dance), starring Jennifer Gray and Patrick Swayze. Lionsgate announced that a sequel was on the agenda in 2020, but no concrete steps have been taken so far.
Jennifer Gray will reprise her role as Frances “Baby” Houseman to direct the movie; The screenwriter, director, and producer Jonathan Levine produced productions such as “50/50”, “The Wackness”, and “Nine Perfect Strangers”. Levine, who was involved in the project as a producer before taking over as director, also wrote the script for the sequel together with Elizabeth Chomko.
The sequel, also called “Dirty Dancing”, is scheduled to go on set later this year. The movie will meet with the audience in 2024. Patrick Swayze, who accompanied Jennifer Gray in the original movie and performed unforgettable dance scenes, passed away in 2009. But the producers have revealed that they are working to somehow incorporate Swayze’s memory into the film.
The plot of the film is kept secret and the names of the cast are not yet known. Director Jonathan Levine said that in addition to the original film’s soundtrack, hip-hop tracks from the 90s were included in the film.
