“Succession” will definitely win the DGA Award for drama this year. That’s because she’s the only nominee for drama this year. Five episodes of the third season of the HBO series earned all five nominations for the drama series category at this year’s DGA Awards. This major victory came with the announcement of this year’s TV nominations for the 74th annual DGA Awards.
On Wednesday, the nominees for the documentary category were also announced. On the comedy side, Apple TV Plus’ “Ted Lasso” earned three out of five DGA Awards nominations in the category. Other nominations earned “Hacks” and “The White Lotus”. In the miniseries and TV movie race, two episodes of Hulu’s “Dopesick” face off against episodes of “Mare of Easttown”, “Station Eleven” and “The Underground Railroad.” HBO dominated the list with ten nominations, with HBO Max in second place with five nominations.
Following HBO’s show, Apple TV Plus, CBS, and Hulu received three nominations each, while Amazon Prime Video, Comedy Central, Hulu, National Geographic, NBC, Netflix, and Paramount Plus received two nominations each. Last year, the best TV awards were “Homeland” for drama series, “The Flight Attendant” for comedy series, and “The Queen’s Gambit” for mini-series/TV movie.
The DGA Awards are voted on by over 18,000 members of the guild. This year’s awards are accepting TV entries aired from March 1, 2021, to December 31, 2021. Voting for the TV awards took place from Wednesday, December 15, 2021, to Friday, January 21, 2022. This year’s DGA Awards will be held on March 12. Spike Lee is set to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award.
