Hulu is bringing the two stars together in the same series



Diego Luna and Gael García Bernal team up to star in a Spanish-language mini-series produced by Searchlight Television. The duo will star in the TV series “La Maquina” from writer Marco Ramirez. An aging boxer (García Bernal) will be the focus, whose shrewd manager (Luna) gives him one last shot for the championship. The two will have to lead a mysterious underground mafia to fight.
Both Luna and García Bernal will produce under the banner of La Corriente del Golfo. Ramirez will serve as executive producer and showrunner in addition to writing. Gabriel Ripstein will direct the entire series. Gerardo Gatica, Leandro Halperin and Adam Fishbach will serve as producers. Searchlight recently released the critically acclaimed Hulu series “The Dropout” and the upcoming Hulu comedy series “History of the World Part II.”
This won’t be the first time Luna and García Bernal have met onscreen. The two actors first worked together on the critically acclaimed film “Y tu mamá también”. Since then, they have acted together in numerous projects, including “Rudo y Cursi” and “Casa de mi padre”, among others. Searchlight heads Matthew Greenfield and David Greenbaum said, “It’s a real honor to reunite Gael and Diego on screen for ‘La Máquina’. Their friendship and chemistry is a pleasure to experience. We are delighted to be working with Marco, whose unique voice and vision allow us to explore this world in a completely authentic way.” said.
García Bernal has previously acted in films such as “The Motorcycle Diaries”, “Wasp Network”, “Old”, “Amores Perros” and “Chicuarotes”. He is also known for starring in the Amazon original series “Mozart in the Jungle” and HBO Max’s “Station Eleven.” She will later appear in a Marvel Halloween special on Disney+ and in the Amazon movie “Cassandro.” Luna is perhaps best known for her lead role in the “Star Wars” movie “Rogue One,” where she plays Rebel spy Cassian Andor. He is getting ready to reprise this role in the prequel series “Andor” on Disney+. She also recently lent her voice to the animated DC movie “League of Super Pets”. Other movie roles include “The Book of Life”, “If Beale Street Could Talk” and “Wander Darkly”. Ramirez is a writer and producer known for his plays “Daredevil”, “The Defenders”, “Orange Is the New Black” and “The Royale”.
